The new MediaTek chipset will be ready for customer samples in Q3 of this year and will be made available in commercial smartphones by Quarter 1 of 2020.
Stepping up the 5G technology in the smartphone world, MediaTek on Wednesday introduced a new Helio M70 chipset with 5G capabilities. The 5G integrated chipset has been designed to power the super premium 5G smartphones in the world. The big announcement was made at the Computex 2019 event taking place in Taiwan, China.
With the advent of 5G smartphones in the world, the American giant, Qualcomm was the first among other chipmakers to power the high-end 5G-enabled devices. Now MediaTek has come up with a 5G chipset which is claimed to be “world’s first fully-integrated 7 nanometers 5G SoC" to rival Qualcomm.
According to a blog by MediaTek, the new chipset will be ready for customer samples in Quarter three of this year. It will be introduced in commercial smartphones by Quarter 1 of 2020. The company did not disclose full specifications of the chipset but revealed few highlights of the same.
The MediaTek integrated 5G SoC come with support for advanced AI applications such as de-blur that will enable users to take stable shots even when the subject is moving fast. It includes ARM’s Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU that is said to enable "seamless extreme streaming and gaming experiences at 5G speeds."
It has a throughput of 4.7Gps download and new Radio 2 Component Carrier support. The chipset additionally also supports 4K video encode/decode at 60fps and can work with smartphones bearing as large as an 80-megapixel camera lens.
“Everything about this chip is designed for the first wave of flagship 5G devices. The leading-edge technology in this chipset makes it the most powerful 5G SoC announced to date and puts MediaTek at the forefront of 5G SoC design. MediaTek will power rollouts of 5G premium level devices” said MediaTek President Joe Chen while commenting on the launch.
